August 28, 2016 - By admin - Uncategorized

66 year’s ago today Hideaway Island was the location of the main village of Mele. The joint administration of France and the United Kingdom made the decision to relocate the original inhabitants of the Island to the mainland as the population had become too large for the Island to support. To this day every year the people of Mele Village return to Hideaway Island on the 28th of August with the elders and the youth of the Village to remember the ancestors and ensure that the young people never forget their history.
